What our physios do?

Physio works by integrating evidence-based research with clinical experience. Jason and Neil are the clinic's current physios and are registered with the Australian Physiotherapy Registration Board.  They have specialised training in Sports and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Psychology, Clinical Pilates, and Acupuncture.  They have over 30 years of experience between them.  Consequently, our clinic's physios will provide you with an advanced assessment, diagnosis and treatment of all of your musculoskeletal conditions and injuries.

Jason and Neil employ only the most efficacious techniques and therapies which have proven scientific benefit.  In addition, they will consult closely with your doctor and/or specialist when required, to ensure that you receive the best possible treatment and care.

What can I expect, and what can I do?

Your physio from Mead Street Physio will act promptly to minimise the severity of your pain and disability by protecting the injury and reducing inflammation in the area.  Once inflammation and pain have subsided they will introduce gentle movement based strategies including stretching and strengthening aimed at rehabilitating your injury and increasing the range of motion. This can also include a number of exercises which can be done at home or work.

As your full mobility returns, the focus becomes directed at your agility, sports & work-specific requirements, and preventative strategies by providing an advanced and personalised training and education program.

Some forms of physio in the management repertoire include:

  • mobilisation and manipulation
  • ultrasound
  • cold and heat therapy
  • massage
  • electrical stimulation
  • acupuncture
  • taping
  • stretching
  • strengthening and core stability exercises
  • Pilates
  • posture correction
  • traction
  • ergonomic management.

When appropriate, we will consult closely with your doctor and/or specialist to provide you with the best possible care and pain relief in the short and long term.

If you are a new patient to our clinic, we will require you to fill out a New Patient Registration Form, and brought in with you on your first visit along with any written referrals or scans that are relevant to your condition.

You can expect that one of our friendly physios, either Jason or Neil, will ask you questions related to your condition to gain an understanding of your discomfort and restrictions. Then your therapist will perform a thorough physical examination appropriate to your condition.  Please consider wearing appropriate clothing to facilitate this assessment.  Gowns are available at the clinic to use and your comfort and confidentiality is at all times ensured.  Following this, you can expect to receive a provisional diagnosis and a proposed management plan including the likely number of visits required to achieve this.

You can help yourself by acting promptly at the time of the injury to limit the extent and severity of the damage and facilitate the chance of a speedier recovery. Some tips to improving recovery times for injuries include:

• immobilising the affected area by applying a support or splint
• applying ice to the affected area to reduce inflammation
• firmly compressing the site of injury
• seeing your physio or doctor as soon as possible.
